New Beginnings, New Mercies

As the year comes to an end, we all have opportunities to look back. To reflect and remember. And to evaluate our lives.

Looking back, we might become conscious of mistakes we have made and wish that we could have second chances. But the wonderful thing is that God is a God of new beginnings.

Spending time thinking about our lives provides us with opportunities to remember just how great are His mercies. The Bible tells us that they never fail. In fact, these mercies “are new every morning” (v. 23). He never tires of being merciful toward us.

Others may hurt or disappoint us. They may make mistakes and fall short of our expectations. Situations may not work out like we hoped. We may have said things that we regret, or made decisions that didn’t turn out.

But no matter what has happened, we need to know that God is faithful. Jeremiah wrote that He is “good to those who wait for Him” (v. 25).

As you enter a new year, take a few minutes to commit the future to Him. No matter what circumstances you face, you have no reason to be worried or afraid.

He calls us to cast our cares on Him. Not to lean on our understanding but acknowledge Him, confident that He will direct our path. To fill our minds with His Word and confess His promises. To seek Him first, confident that He knows our every need. To realize that His mercies are new every morning, every year.
