Mission Accomplished

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

With God’s favor you can declare, “Mission accomplished,” just like Jehoiada the priest did.

“In the seventh year Jehoiada sent orders and brought the captains of hundreds of the Carites and of the guards … He made a covenant with them and put them under oath.”—2 Kings 11:4 NASB

After the death of King Amaziah, his mother Athaliah was determined to hang on to power. This ruthless woman ordered that all possible heirs to the throne be killed … even her own sons and grandsons … even little Joash.

Amazingly, Joash was hidden for six years, his existence known to few people. Finally in the seventh year, Jehoiada the priest felt the time had come for Joash to be declared king. The captains of the guard were given precise assignments, and no one could even whisper that Joash was alive.

This complex plot to unveil the new king took remarkable coordination and secrecy, yet it was a complete success. The action Jehoiada orchestrated provides a picture of the way the body of Christ is supposed to work.

First, we must be committed to the Kingdom of God, following Jesus and putting aside everything else. Second, we must remember that each of us has a special role to play, an individual mission with specific goals that we’re called to fulfill. Third, we must recognize that we’re all part of the same body, working in harmony with the rest of the body.

Today, remember that you have a special role to play in accomplishing the work of God. You have a special destiny, with special gifts and talents.

Declare that Jesus is your Lord. Follow His plan for your life and focus on the tasks He gives you. Work with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Reflection Question: How will you use your God-given purpose for God’s mission today?

Prayer
Jesus, help me to stay focused on Your purpose and plans. I dedicate my life to You. I seek first Your Kingdom. In Your name, amen.
