Memorize Bible Verses
When we memorize Bible verses, we are treasuring God’s Word in our hearts. Real change begins with what we carry inside.
“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”—Psalm 119:11 NKJV
To many, memorization is a relic of the past when it was a cornerstone of learning. Now computers increasingly do more of our thinking, and many people consider memorization unnecessary. One so-called expert recently argued that children should not be forced to memorize facts and figures.
This same view spills over into our attitude toward the Bible. Many never consider memorizing the Word. But the psalmist knew the power of God’s Word. When we hide it in our hearts, our lives will change.
God’s Word helps keep us from sin, temptation, and wrong thoughts. Through His Word, we can call on God’s eternal wisdom and power. Confidence can overcome doubt. We can have hope even when all seems hopeless.
Yet we cannot experience the full benefit of God’s Word until we know it. It must be hidden in our hearts through meditation and memorization. We must treasure the Word, store up its contents in our minds, and be ready to draw upon its wisdom in our daily lives.
What are you allowing into your heart and treasuring? To receive God’s peace and strength, you need to hide His Word in your heart. Commit to memorize verses from God’s Word. Hide the Scriptures in your heart, and meditate on them day and night. They will change your life!
