A Love Relationship

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries2 Minutes

The Bible frequently uses human love as a metaphor for God’s relationship with His people. Collectively, the Church is described as the “bride of Christ.” And we read how, in the fulfillment of God’s plan, “the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready” (Revelation 19:7).

In describing the relationship between husbands and wives, Paul tells us that this is a great “mystery,” but the whole matter deals “with reference to Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5:22-32).

This relationship is developed extensively in the Song of Solomon. For here we see the ultimate metaphor for the love relationship that God has for His people. That Jesus has for His bride.

Here we see the intense passion a woman had for her man. So strong was her desire that she looked for him, knowing he was the one “whom my soul loves.” She asked the watchmen to help her find him. Once she had him, she vowed to hold on to him. This was a two-way relationship, with both man and woman absolutely and totally committed to each other.

We can find no greater contrast than in the relationship between Ahasuerus and Vashti, King and Queen of Persia (described in Esther 1). Ahasuerus could command a vast empire and impress others with his power and riches, but could not compel his wife to love him.

The woman in Song of Solomon did not need to be compelled to respond to her lover. She truly was in love.

Today, spend time alone with God. Let Him show you how much He loves you! And let the love for God become the passion of your life.
