Life-Changing Choices

Many of the Jews were tired of waiting. Wanting a direct answer, they asked Jesus, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus responded that He had told them. How? “The works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.” But not everyone understood. Why? They lacked faith and didn’t know His voice.

Jesus explained that truth is revealed to His sheep, those people who followed Him, believed in Him, and committed their lives to Him. As His sheep, they could hear His voice and be confident He would protect and provide for them. And He promised they never would be snatched out of His hands (vs. 22-28).

But Jesus also taught that we have the power to decide if we want to be His sheep—if we’ll follow Him, obey Him, and be His disciples.

Just think of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-22). This man believed in God and kept His commandments. Yet he knew something was missing. Jesus told him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” This man had a choice to make. He decided he wasn’t willing to pay the price of discipleship, for He still was too attached to the things of this world.

Today, God stands ready and willing to bless you, guide you, be your shepherd, and give you His wisdom and riches, power and resources. But you must decide your path for yourself. Make the right choice. Leave everything else behind and follow Jesus. Seek to obey His Word. Take up your cross daily. Make Jesus the Lord of your life.
