Life

From the opening of his letter, John made it clear that he was writing about life. He began by proclaiming the Word of life (v. 1). This Word (logos) is the presence and revelation of Jesus. John wanted us to know that Jesus brings life. Real life begins with Jesus, and all who believe on Him have eternal life (1 John 5:13)!

We are constantly bombarded by voices eager to tell us how to live and what to believe. Many of these people also tell us why we shouldn’t believe the Bible and why it is foolish to trust in God. Such people spread doubt. They encourage us to accept their wisdom and focus on material things.

It can be tempting to believe these voices, and to focus on the things in this world. But John could not make it any clearer: Our life needs to begin and end with Jesus. He is our life, now and into eternity.

Today, remember how simple and powerful it is to trust in Jesus! Through faith in Him, everything changes. As we focus on Him, He opens up a whole new world to us, and allows us to experience life in fresh ways. He can take away our burdens and give us peace. He can direct our steps and provide our needs.

He can do these things because He is the way, the truth, and the life!
