Lest We Drift Away

All of us have the potential to drift away from God every Christian, regardless of age or experience. The wrong things, thoughts of sin, and ungodliness can dominate any heart and mind. So, what should we do?

The Bible says that we must “give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard” (v. 1 NKJV). It is not enough merely to know about the truths of our faith. We cannot just read the Bible, pray occasionally, or go to church. We must be vigilant. Serious. Prepared.

This means devoting our thoughts and efforts to spiritual things. Instead of being dominated by the world, we must be addicted to the things of God.

We must read and study the Bible and think and meditate about what it means. We must spend quality time in prayer and allow God to show us more about the “things we have heard” and the needs of our lives. We also need to make sure that we are living in obedience to His Word and being good stewards of the resources He has given us.

Today, ask God to revive your spiritual life. Do not be content with a lukewarm faith, or assume that you could not drift away. Ask God to pour His Spirit upon you as never before, open your eyes to more of His truth, and transform your life in new ways.
