Throughout his first letter to the Christians in Thessalonica, Paul emphasized the importance of Jesus. He used the name Jesus 17 times while also frequently referring to His titles.

Of particular importance was that Jesus was Lord. The Greek word for Lord, kurios, is used on 25 different occasions in this letter. This word summarizes how we are to approach Jesus. He is not a prophet or priest, a holy or wise man. We owe Him a position of extreme honor. He is the master of all things. He is the Lord!

Wherever they went, the early apostles stressed the lordship of Jesus. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter made it clear that Jesus was Lord (Acts 2:36). When Jesus confronted Paul on the road to Damascus, he immediately related to Him as Lord (Acts 9:5), and it was Jesus as Lord that Paul preached to the Philippian jailer (Acts 16:31).

This was so important that Paul would write the Romans, If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

The Bible makes clear that if we want to experience God’s blessings, we need to make Jesus our Lord. He must be our supreme authority. Our lives must belong to Him, and we must allow Him to decide our priorities and direction.

What is Jesus to you? Is He your Master? Is He your Lord?
