Inspired by the Word

America’s “Founding Fathers” were descendants of men and women who had come to the New World. This was a diverse group of people, with many interests and frequently conflicting opinions. But most of them agreed upon the primary source of their inspiration.

This pattern was revealed in a ten-year study conducted by the University of Houston, which reviewed more than 15,000 documents written by these leaders. The study demonstrated the influence of men like Charles de Montesquieu, William Blackstone, and John Locke. The researchers discovered that more than a third of all the quotes in these early documents were taken directly from the Bible. America’s Founding Fathers clearly knew the Bible and based their ideas on Biblical concepts.

On this day, America celebrates its independence. But this is a day when people in every nation should consider the source of freedom and the keys to success. America’s founders knew that God gave us His Word so we could prosper and have success. We need to “meditate on it day and night” and be careful to do everything “that is written in it.”

Today, many seem to have forgotten the lessons of history. They don’t realize that these Biblical truths are just as important today as they were in the past. In our time, we need men and women who realize the Bible is true in every generation. It is God’s Word. It contains the principles we need for success in our families and finances, our health and relationships, our laws and government.

Make sure to base your life on the Word. Live by it, and pray for your nation and its leaders to follow its precepts.
