Inspection

All the work on the Tabernacle was done, and the people seemed satisfied. But Moses responded by examining what they had done.

Why was this inspection necessary? Perhaps he thought they might have overlooked some detail or made mistakes. Perhaps Moses had doubts or reservations. After all, these were the same people who, so recently, had rejected God and embraced idol worship. Could they be trusted with this important task?

In any case, Moses knew that God had entrusted him with the pattern for the Tabernacle and given him ultimate responsibility (Exodus 25:9). Knowing this responsibility, Moses recognized that he needed to take the extra step of inspecting all that had been done. It must have been a moment of relief when his inspection revealed that the work had been done to God’s specifications. He responded by blessing the people.

Moses knew that it wasn’t enough merely to build the Tabernacle. Everything had to be done right, according to God’s standards.

God looks for people like Moses, who take His Word seriously and are faithful to complete the assignments they’ve given. He blesses those who give Him their best and aren’t satisfied with mediocrity or willing to accept a halfhearted effort.

God is pleased when we invest the extra time and energy to examine His Word and the work of our hands. Instead of merely assuming our work satisfies Him, He wants us to go the extra mile to make sure we’ve followed His directions and not forgotten anything.

Today, remember that nothing is too good for our King. He is worthy of our best. Seek to have this attitude in everything you do, to be a person of whom He will say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
