In the Beginning

“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth.”—Proverbs 8:22–23

The Bible teaches the importance of wisdom. But biblical wisdom is more than a collection of information. It’s more than a roadmap to understand situations we face or help us make decisions. Wisdom is part of the essence of creation. It is the very expression of the operating nature of God and defines how we should respond to every challenge. As the Bible says, “before His works” wisdom was established from the beginning even “before there was ever an earth.”

To know wisdom is to be in harmony with God and all of creation. It is knowing conditions that existed before anything else was created, before people and nations, before there were any problems.

Wisdom was there before the fountains were “abounding with water,” before hills were brought forth, or the earth was made. This wisdom was there when God “prepared the heavens” and “marked out the foundations of the earth” (vs. 24-30). God’s wisdom provides us with a foundation for everything in life, helping us live in harmony with God and all of creation.

How do you gain this wisdom? Read and study God’s Word. Pray. Humble yourself before God and ask for His wisdom and understanding. Ask for discernment so that you might have a revelation of true wisdom—beyond information, applicable in every situation, leading to a life that lines up with His principles and is in accord with the foundation of creation.
