In God’s Time and Way

Nebuchadnezzar had a very complicated dream. God gave the interpretation to Daniel, who was rewarded with a position of prominence in the kingdom.

Years later, the same ruler, Nebuchadnezzar, had another dream. But by this time, Daniel seems to have been forgotten completely. When the “wise men” were brought to the king, Daniel was not included. We can only imagine how Daniel might have felt about being snubbed in this way.

However, “finally” Daniel was called. This suggests that Daniel was seen as a last resort, as if they had tried everything else. As He had done before, God created circumstances in which Daniel was called into prominence. Daniel was ready, and he accomplished God’s purposes.

How easy it is to focus our thoughts on the opinions of other people and worry about how we rank in their sight. If we do not receive the credit, praise, or rewards we think we deserve, we can find ourselves frustrated or angry, worried or afraid.

But the story of Daniel reminds us that while we may be forgotten, overlooked, or taken for granted by people, God never forgets. He wants us to be faithful to Him.

Today, place your faith in God, and look to Him for favor and reward. Do not worry about popularity or the opinions of others. Seek to serve Him faithfully, and be a good steward of the resources you have been given.

Know that God will reward you and use you, in His time and His way.
