How to Prosper

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

How to prosper—true success comes from seeking God’s Kingdom, obeying His Word, and depending on Him for wisdom.

“Now, my son, the LORD be with you that you may be successful … Then you will prosper.”—1 Chronicles 22:11–13 NASB

David prepared to turn over the reins of Israel to his son Solomon, offering him a succinct summary of what to do to be prosperous.

First, Solomon needed to focus on God’s work and make that his top priority. This meant seeking first God’s Kingdom (Matthew 6:33), but for Solomon, that also meant building the Temple.

Solomon needed to obey God and keep His Word, being “careful to follow” His statutes and ordinances (v. 13). He needed to realize God had a plan for his life and dedicate himself to fulfilling that plan.

David instructed Solomon to depend on God for wisdom and knowledge, “discretion and understanding” (v. 12). Solomon was reminded that he was being blessed to serve God. From personal experience, David knew how easy it could be to take advantage of the privileges of power for personal gain. God would bring Solomon prosperity as long as he continued to faithfully serve Him and lead His people.

Finally, Solomon was told, “Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be dismayed” (v. 13). He was to be humble, confident, and bold!

Do you want to prosper and be successful? Follow the keys David gave to Solomon. Put God’s Kingdom first, and submit your life to Him. Obey His Word. Depend on Him for guidance and wisdom. Bless others with the resources you’ve been given. Then move forward in faith, confidently and boldly.
