Hope

“Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5 NASB

It is a situation that seemed hopeless. As their rural community experiences commercial expansion, the family faces the real possibility that they will lose the farm that has been passed down for generations. As the Christmas season approaches, the pressure mounts. And, in spite of every effort, nothing seems to work.

As the drama unfolds, the family turns to their Christian roots. To their faith. They are renewed and strengthened, and they find hope.

This is part of the fictional story told in the new film, Christmas in the Smokies, a drama that illustrates a common problem. We live in a world where many feel hopeless. Sometimes this hopelessness is the result of a financial crisis or a broken relationship. Others feel like giving up as they deal with health issues. Some are discouraged by burdens that seem too heavy to bear or questions that don’t seem to have answers.

The Bible tells us that, in all these situations, we can have hope! Why? Because God does not change! He is sovereign in every situation. He is not limited by the size of our problems. Circumstances may seem impossible, but with Him, nothing is impossible!

During this Christmas season, remember God loves you so much that He sent Jesus into this world as a baby. Because of His presence, that no matter what you face, you can trust Him. You can know that He is with you. And through the Holy Spirit, you can know that love in your heart.

If you face challenges, don’t give up. If you have problems, don’t panic. If you feel discouraged, commit your situations to God. Believe Him, and have faith! Seek His wisdom. Follow His leading, and let Him give you His peace. And remember: You can hope in Him.

Prayer: Father, thank You that I can place my hope in You. Thank You for sending Jesus into this world that I could be freed from fear. I trust You! In His name. Amen.
