Help!

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

When trouble surrounds you, trust that God is near and will help—just as He was with David in Psalm 22.

“Be not far from me, for trouble is near; for there is no one to help.”—Psalm 22:11 NASB

David felt hopeless. Forsaken. Trouble surrounded him. He had been mocked and insulted because of his faith in God. Enemies seemed to be everywhere. Though he prayed and sought God, he saw no evidence of His intervention.

Even so, in this moment of desperation, David realized there was nowhere else to turn. No one else but God could help him. Looking back at his life, he remembered how the Lord had been with him in every situation: “My God from my mother’s womb” (v. 10).

David determined to declare God’s name and praise Him in the congregation, no matter what other people said or did. God was listening to him and would answer his prayers and meet his needs. He knew, “the kingdom is the LORD’S” (v. 28). No matter how things appeared, God was sovereign and still reigned over all the earth.

David might have felt hopeless and discouraged for a time, but God still was there, listening to him, ready to help.

Today, you may feel anxious and afraid, worried, or filled with doubt. It may appear that nothing is going right. But do not give in to despair. Remember that God cares for you. Trust in Him and remain faithful; He will bring you victory.

Declare the promises of God and start praising Him! God was with David when he was going through uncertain times, and He is with you right now!

Reflection Question: How can you remind yourself of God’s presence when trouble surrounds you?
