Heavenly Power

Christmas is about miracles. In this decisive event, the power of God invaded earth and made possible what seemed impossible. This is clear from the moment Gabriel told Mary that she would bear a son.

This made no sense to Mary. Yet Gabriel explained that this birth would be the sovereign work of God, and it would demonstrate that the power of the Holy Spirit has no limits.

Jesus’ ministry was a testimony to this same power. And then that very power was at work through the ministry of His disciples.

But miracles didn’t end in the first century. Author Philip Jenkins describes how a ninth century Egyptian monk reported that many kings, wise men, and common people became Christians because of the “signs which they have known, and miracles which they have recognized.” A leader from that time reported how Christianity “is only received and believed in by the signs and miracles which its missionaries showed.”

When Islam arose as a powerful new force, miracles helped convince many that Jesus was the only Way and that the Gospel was true. One account describes how a church bishop “performed marvelous miracles like Elijah the Tishbite and the first apostles.” In fact, many miracles were reported throughout the church community.

Today, God’s power is just as real as it was that first Christmas and as it was for Jesus’ disciples and Believers in past centuries. Don’t limit Him, but dare to believe that all things are possible.

Approach the Lord in faith for the problems you face. Pray with confidence, and declare His promises to be true in your life. He’s the God of miracles!
