Completing God’s Work

God told Moses he was to build a Tabernacle…but keep in mind this was not just any building. God gave very specific instructions about every dimension and every piece of material. Because building the Tabernacle required special skills, two men were called to lead this project: Bezalel and Oholiab, whom God had given unique skills so “they may make all that I have commanded you” (Exodus 31:1-6).

But where were these men to get the raw materials? After all, they were in a wilderness, with no permanent home. God provided the answer: The materials would come from the people…from what they already had in their possession! This included “everyone whose heart stirred him and everyone whose spirit moved him” (Exodus 35:21). The response was so great that they had “more than enough” (Exodus 36:7).

Bezalel and Oholiab kept working on this project, day after day, until it was completed. They obeyed God in every detail, both small and great, and the Lord blessed their work. It was a work of excellence and beauty, built according to God’s plan with the gifts freely brought by His people.

This provides a picture of God’s plan for all of our lives. He has called us to fulfill His purposes on the earth, and He wants us to serve Him with skill and excellence. He wants us to use the resources He has given us to accomplish specific things for His Kingdom.

God looks for people, like Bezalel and Oholiab, who will be faithful. He looks for those who will be diligent and not stop until they’ve completed their assignment.

Today, think about God’s call on your life. Use the unique resources and opportunities He has given you. Don’t give up until you’ve finished the race and completed what God has called you to do. Be a faithful servant!
