God’s Promise of Guidance

“How can I know the will of God?” This question frequently is asked by Believers.

The Bible actually presents many different ways we can know God’s will. For example, there is much to be learned from studying the way He guided Abraham’s servant.

Abraham had given this man an important assignment: He was to travel hundreds of miles to Abraham’s ancestral family home and find a wife for his son, Isaac. Even though the man was given specific instructions, he still faced many alternatives and possibilities. How would he know which girl was right? How could he be sure? Would her family allow him to bring her back to Canaan?

Faced with these questions, the servant prayed for God’s guidance and blessing. “O LORD God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham” (v. 12). He then was amazed by how God answered!

Miraculously, he was lead to Rebekah, the perfect wife for Isaac. The servant recognized that God had guided him, for “the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren” (v. 27). When he committed his ways to God and asked for guidance, the servant was led directly to the exact city, the exact well, the exact family, and the exact woman!

In your life, realize that the Lord is ready to guide you just as faithfully. When you have challenges or problems, He can show you the answers. When you face crossroads, you can be confident that He will give you His wisdom.

Start by filling your heart and mind with God’s Word. Stand on His promises. Obey His principles. Seek Him. Commit your way to Him. Trust Him to direct your path…today and throughout the new year.
