God’s Promise of Hope

There are so many reasons to feel discouraged: When we hear the news of problems in the world, when we face challenges that seem overwhelming, when we have problems that don’t seem to have solutions. There are certainly times when we can feel hopeless.

Paul knew that all of us need hope. The Bible tells us that hope endures (1 Corinthians 13:13). No matter how dark or depressing our circumstances may appear, we always can hope in God! He wants to give us hope in any situation, no matter how dark things might seem.

But we should not merely hope. God wants us to rejoice in hope!

Paul knew what it was like to have hope in the midst of hopeless situations. As he and Silas sat in a Philippian jail, they could have been in despair. But, instead, they had hope and sang praises to God. And God brought them deliverance and victory (Acts 16).

At best, the world can provide answers that give short-term relief. But we are hopeless if we look at circumstances and let the world dictate how we think.

We may go through situations that are threatening, that can cause uncertainty, anxiety, doubt, or fear. But if we depend on God, we can know that He is the source of hope, and we can rejoice in Him and the hope He promises us. If we have hope we can be filled with joy and peace, no matter what is going on in the world.

Today, remind yourself not to place your hope in the world, the world system, or any human being in the world. Rejoice in the hope that God has given you. Place your hope in the living God and His eternal power to save and make everything right in His time, in His way.
