God’s Opportunity

In many ways, this moment was the low point in Peter’s life. He always had been proud and self-confident, sure of his abilities. But now, waiting in the courtyard while Jesus was on trial, he proved to be a coward, denying even knowing the Lord. Grieved when he realized what he had done, he left the courtyard and wept bitterly.

Yet from another perspective, this was a major turning point. Peter suddenly became conscious of his own weaknesses. He became broken and vulnerable, ready to be used by God in new ways.

Peter’s ministry really began at this low point, when he stopped depending on his own strength. He saw the futility of his human effort. Peter needed to fail and stumble, so he could realize that He needed God’s power and strength.

Paul had a similar revelation. He described taking pleasure in experiences that revealed his weaknesses. Why? When I am weak, then I am strong, he explained (2 Corinthians 12:10).

This is a discovery that each of us needs to make. The Bible assures us that God is ready to give us His power and wisdom. But we cannot know His fullness as long as we trust in ourselves and our own abilities. We must surrender to Him. That’s when He can fill us with His Spirit, use us for His glory, and bless our lives in amazing ways.

Humble yourself before God today. Be willing to see your mistakes and frustrations as opportunities to turn to God, and become a vessel for His supernatural wisdom and power.
