How God Heals a Nation

When Solomon became king, Israel was at the height of its power and influence. His father, David, had extended the borders, defeated their enemies, and brought peace. Instead of needing to fight wars, Solomon reigned during a time of prosperity when he was given the responsibility to build a temple for God.

When the temple was completed, he led the people in a time of dedication, prayer, praise, and rejoicing. Fire came down from heaven and the glory of God filled the temple.

Shortly after this dedication, God appeared to Solomon at night and said that He heard his prayers. But He did not promise to respond to every prayer or take action, even when there were needs.

Instead, He placed the burden on His people.

How they acted would determine what He did. His promises were conditional, based on their response: “If His people would humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Today, our land needs to be healed. Families are being torn apart. Violence, godlessness, and immorality are everywhere. But the Bible teaches that God is not waiting for the world to change.

He is looking, not to the unbelievers, but His people. What we do will determine if He will hear, forgive, and heal.

You can play a part in this healing right now. Humble yourself. Pray. Seek God’s face. Seek first His Kingdom. Turn away from any sin or wickedness in your life. If all of us do this, God promises to hear from Heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land.
