God Can Use Anyone

He faced incredible odds. Born into abject poverty, his father died when he was just a child. When he was 12, his hometown was attacked by foreign troops, and a soldier slashed his face with a sword, leaving him deformed.

Throughout his life, he stuttered, leading to constant embarrassment. He even came to be called “Tartaglia” (“The Stammerer”).

What hope could there be for such a man? How easily he could have felt hopeless and trapped. He could have looked at his obstacles and assumed that nothing good could come of his life. Yet this man, Niccolò Fontana, went on to become one of the most important mathematicians in history.

Even though he was largely self-taught, Fontana, who was born in Brescia, Italy, in 1500, was able to master complex concepts. He saw solutions no one else had seen and particularly gained fame for his algebraic solution of cubic equations.

As we face obstacles, how easy it can be to feel hopeless—looking at our circumstances and assuming that answers simply aren’t possible. We might feel that God could never use us.

But the Bible gives us many examples of the miraculous way God can open doors and change lives. He can use anyone who is fully dedicated to Him.

As Jesus told His disciples, although some things may not be possible from a human perspective, “Everything is possible with God” (Mark 10:27). As the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples, we see these ordinary men transformed into articulate speakers who amazed listeners with their eloquence, and performed mighty miracles.

Today, remember that you are special to God. He can use you in powerful ways as you commit your life to Him and are filled with His Spirit. Move forward with faith, confident that He is with you. Trust Him to accomplish extraordinary things through you for His Kingdom.
