Getting Wisdom

To the people of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar was the supreme ruler. His kingdom was administered by an elite group trained for leadership. Many of these leaders also were trained in Babylonian religion and practiced divination. Equipped with this training, they were thought to be able to predict the future.

When Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream, he naturally asked his leaders to explain its meaning. But he wouldn’t tell them anything. If they couldn’t provide both the dream and its interpretation, they would be executed. All these men knew that it was an impossible request.

But Daniel reacted differently. He knew that what was impossible with men was possible with God. He and his friends prayed, and God supernaturally provided the answer.

The men considered wise in the kingdom failed. But Daniel knew that the key was to trust God. To seek His face. When he made his presentation to the king, Daniel gave Him the credit as the God who “reveals mysteries.”

Overwhelmed, Nebuchadnezzar “fell on his face and did homage to Daniel.” He ordered him to be honored and promoted. Most importantly, Nebuchadnezzar honored God, declaring that He “is a God of gods and a Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries.”

These wise men may remind us of people we know. Even the world’s “experts.” But in fact, in some ways, all of us are like them. We all have opinions. We all have ideas. But just like these wise men, we all have limits. And ultimately, our opinions are subjective and flawed.

In your life, always remember to depend on God. He is with you. No matter what the challenge, call on Him for the wisdom you need.
