Fulfilling God’s Purposes

It was an action that many found puzzling. People wondered why British foreign secretary Arthur Balfour would issue a declaration calling for the “establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”

This declaration was part of a letter he wrote on this day in 1917 to Baron Rothschild, and it essentially pledged British support for efforts to create a homeland for Jews. This crucial step helped lead to the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.

Long interested in spiritual things, Balfour was publicly encouraged to write this letter by Chaim Weizmann, Nahum Sokolow, and other Zionist leaders. It also seems clear that God was working behind the scenes.

Thousands of years earlier, God told Ezekiel that He would open up the graves of His people and bring them “into the land of Israel.” For many years, it seemed impossible that this promise would be fulfilled. But God never forgot His promise, and today Israel is an independent nation.

The principles that applied to the formation of Israel also apply to you. Remember that God’s Word is sure in your life. It is true regardless of the circumstances you face or conditions in the world. Just as He is fulfilling His plans for the nations, He has a plan for you personally. No matter how things appear on the surface, keep your trust in Him.

Make your own declaration today: Declare your faith in God and His timeless Word. Then be confident that He will fulfill His purposes in your life.
