Freed from Worry

Stock prices more than doubled between 1925 and 1929, leading to a wave of speculation. As prices kept rising, investors bought stocks in hopes of increasing their profits.

But everything changed on this date in 1929, as stock prices began to fall sharply. That day became known as “Black Thursday.” Panic spread, and people began to lose huge sums of money. It was a downward trend that continued for three years.

This crash helped spur the Great Depression. By 1933, more than 25% of Americans were unemployed. Countless businesses and banks failed. Thousands lost everything.

The crash was a powerful reminder of what can happen to those who trust in the world. In fact, these kinds of things can happen at any time. Yet many people continue to trust in their job or the economy, placing their faith in their savings or resources. Even today, many live in fear lest another crash wipe them out.

The Bible tells us that God wants us to be responsible with our resources. But He also wants us to be freed from worry. Jesus said that worrying about what we eat or drink can “dominate the thoughts of most people.”

Thankfully, God can deliver us from worry. How? By focusing our attention on His faithfulness and His Kingdom.

If you trust in Him and seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, He promises to free you from worry. Sow Seeds from the resources you have been given, confident that you will Reap what you Sow. Invest in God’s Kingdom, and let Him take your burdens away.
