The Focus of Your Song

To celebrate their deliverance from bondage and the defeat of the Egyptian armies, the Israelites sang “the song of Moses.” But this song was not about Moses—it was about God. They sang not about Moses’ military exploits, but how the Lord was a warrior on their behalf. They sang not about Moses’ leadership skills, but about God’s greatness and how He “shall reign forever and ever.” And they praised God, “for He is highly exalted.”

Years earlier, Moses might not have been able to sing this song. Growing up in Pharaoh’s household, he had been confident and brash. But everything changed after he killed an Egyptian and fled to faraway Midian, where he spent 40 years as a lowly shepherd. There, God shaped his life according to His plan. And when the Lord called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, he was humble, ready to depend on God and be His servant. Moses had learned that God was the key to success, blessing, and victory.

Many people may think they’re serving God, but the “song” of their lives is not truly about Him. In reality, their song is filled with words focused on themselves and the things of this world.
Today, what is the “song” of your life? Are you “singing” about your skills? Career? Possessions? Ideas? Accomplishments? Or are you singing about God?

Think about all that you owe Him. Everything you have is a gift from Him. He is the reason for your success. Focus the song of your life on Him. He is worthy of all your praise!
