Finding Your Role

To the Jews, Nehemiah became a hero. He was the man God used to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. However, his actions would have been impossible without his brother Hanani.

While Nehemiah had been in Susa, the winter residence of Persian kings, Hanani had been in Jerusalem. Coming to Susa, he provided Nehemiah with a firsthand account. His report carried an unusual impact. In fact, it helped inspire Nehemiah to rebuild the wall.

Hanani continued to prove valuable to Nehemiah. After the walls were rebuilt, he was put in charge of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 7:2).

The partnership between Nehemiah and Hanani reminds us of the different ways people can contribute to the work of God. Some, like Nehemiah, have a more visible role. But others are called to be like Hanani, serving behind the scenes, often in ways that receive little attention. Yet the Kingdom of God needs the faithful contributions of people like Hanani.

The Bible tells us that all of us are important in God’s Kingdom. Each person has a place in the Body of Christ and a special role to fulfill. Some, as Paul described, may plant the seed, while others water it. But it’s God who makes everything grow (1 Corinthians 3:6).

God has a specific calling for you. Commit your life to fulfilling your assignment.

Remember that you are God’s servant. Dedicate your life to serving Him and fulfilling His call. Seek to be faithful with the resources and talents you’ve been given. Focus on winning Souls and building His Kingdom.
