Finding Wisdom

“But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?”—Job 28:12 NASB

Driven by problems, Job found himself asking profound questions about himself, God, and life itself. Facing challenges, he needed to know what to do to gain perspective on life and the issues he faced, so he could make the right decisions.

The friends who gathered around him believed they had all the answers. Job sensed they had information and opinions but not real wisdom. Job knew he could gain insight from nature and learn from life experiences. But he wanted real wisdom and understanding (vs. 13–22).

What could he do? Where could he turn? Job realized that he had to look to God and God alone, the source of true wisdom: “For He looks to the ends of the earth; He sees everything under the heavens” (v. 24).

Today, the world is filled with many advisors, people who claim to be experts, and people who might be smart and possess vast quantities of information. Even friends and relatives think they know what is best. But this does not mean they possess real wisdom and understanding.

Do you have questions about your life? Do you face important challenges and need direction? Do you need wisdom and understanding? Start by seeking God in sincere prayer. He is the source of true wisdom and understanding about every subject. Humble yourself before Him. Fill your life with His Word. Do not be deceived by the world’s imitations, but go right to the Source.
