Faith to Destroy Giants

Joshua had been one of twelve spies who explored the land of Canaan. After this exploration, ten spies were discouraged by the “descendants of Anak.” They told the Israelites that they could not possibly be victorious (Numbers 13:28-33). But Joshua and Caleb refused to accept this negative attitude, and believed that God could help them defeat any foe: “If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land” (Numbers 14:6-10).

Forty years later, Joshua had the opportunity to prove that he was right. He commanded the descendants of those Israelites who were afraid of confronting the descendants of Anak. This time, the result was an overwhelming victory.

This victory was possible because Joshua believed in God and put that belief into action. To those ten spies, the Anakim appeared to be invincible, but because of Joshua’s faith and obedience, God gave them victory!

This victory presents us with a strategy we can apply in our lives.

There are giants in our land. What can any individual do when faced with the massive power and resources of the government? How can we compete with the influence of giant corporations and their overwhelming wealth and assets? Our adversaries may seem to have all the advantages. We may become discouraged and feel like conceding defeat.

When faced with these challenges, we can react like the ten spies, or like Joshua.

What are the “impossible” situations before you today? Who stands against you, and against the work of God? Have faith that He is ready to give victory, no matter how small you might seem or how overwhelming the opposition may appear. Believe Him for victory!
