Faith That Refuses to Quit

First Chronicles 11 illustrates a faith that refuses to quit, showing how perseverance and trust in God lead to victory even when resistance is strong and the answer seems to be no.

“David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, that is, Jebus … The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, ‘You will not come in here.’ Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David” (1 Chronicles 11:4–5).

The Israelites had conquered much of the Promised Land. Yet one group of people provided particularly strong opposition: The Jebusites had not been driven out.

David decided this was unacceptable. When he approached their city, the Jebusites responded defiantly, “You will not come in here.” David easily could have given up. It certainly appeared that their boasts were true and that this city never would be conquered. But unwilling to accept defeat, David found a way to achieve victory and persevered until his goal was accomplished.

All of us face situations in which previous efforts have failed—in which we’re told “No, it can’t be done,” or “You’ll never succeed.” But God wants us to learn from David’s example to persevere, be determined, depend on Him for victory, and believe that nothing is impossible.

Remember that there will be obstacles you’ll need to overcome in life. You will face opposition, and people will tell you that God’s Word is not true … that you’ll never be able to succeed … that certain situations are impossible. But you serve the God for whom nothing is impossible!

In every circumstance, declare your faith in God. Remember to “ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).

Be persistent to believe God. Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. He will give you victory!
