Faith To Complete the Work

Following God’s call, Nehemiah had returned to Jerusalem. His assignment? To rebuild the city walls. But after arriving, he faced strong opposition. His enemies fostered discouragement. They spread rumors and accused the builders of rebellion. They ridiculed their efforts and charged them with inferior workmanship. They encouraged the feeling that their task was impossible.

These attacks continued while work was being done. But the credibility for this opposition ended when the walls were finished — When they “saw these things.”

Nehemiah had accomplished their goal while the enemy’s accusations had proven to be without substance. In fact, their enemies “were very disheartened … for they perceived that this work was done by our God.”

Through perseverance, persistence, and faith, the wall had been completed, and they had been vindicated. God had shown that He was with them. He had made null and void all the criticisms and attacks of their enemies.

God’s people often face situations like this. Even though we have His Word and may be obeying His call, we still can be criticized and face opposition. We still can be discouraged and feel like giving up. These are times to remember the importance of faith, focus, and persistence.

If we remain faithful to God, He can help us overcome every criticism, and silence every doubter or critic. However, we must remain vigilant, continuing to believe and trust in Him, and not giving up (or yielding to doubt or fear).

In your life, ask God to give you the faith and determination to believe Him, regardless of circumstances and what others might say or do. Stay focused on completing your assignments, faithful to do the work He has called you to do.
