Experiencing God’s Presence

In a vision, God led Ezekiel to the gate of Jerusalem that faced toward the east. As he looked, Ezekiel could see “the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the east.” And he heard God’s voice, which “was like the sound of many waters.” The sight and sounds of the moment were overwhelming, as “the earth shone with His glory.”

In response, Ezekiel fell on his face before God. In that moment, he received deeper insight about God’s nature and his own character. He realized that God was greater than anything He could imagine. Ezekiel acknowledged that he was nothing in His sight and that he owed everything to Him.

This acknowledgment made it possible for Ezekiel to stop depending on himself and his own skills and abilities. He could recognize God’s greatness and experience His presence in a more powerful way.

Many people, even many Believers, never really enter God’s presence or experience a truly intimate relationship with Him. It’s easy just to go through the motions and allow the ordinary things of this world to prevent us from experiencing the truly extraordinary. Such things can keep us from entering into the presence of God and flowing in the power of the Spirit.

In your life, don’t allow the things of this world to keep you from experiencing God’s presence. Start by spending quality time with Him. Seek Him through times of intimacy. Talk with Him. Listen. Read and study His Word.

Humble yourself before the Lord. Realize that you owe everything to Him and can accomplish nothing without Him. Sing spiritual songs. Worship Him and give Him thanks.
