Excuses

Excuses, Excuses

One day, at a dinner hosted by a leading Pharisee, a guest said to Jesus, Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God! (v. 15). In response, Jesus told a parable about a man who gave a big dinner. This was a grand event, involving much planning and preparation. When everything was ready, the host announced that it was time for the meal. But none of those invited came. They all had excuses. One person needed to examine some land. A second was concerned about oxen. A third had just married a wife (v. 20). Hearing these excuses, the host was enraged. He sent his servants to invite others.

God’ s Kingdom is like this dinner. It is filled with amazing abundance He’s prepared, and He has invited us to join Him. The question is, how will we respond? Many don’t respond positively because they have the wrong priorities. To them, God’s Kingdom is less important than their personal interests and pleasures, so they reject the invitation.

What about us? Will we seek first His Kingdom? Or will we reject His invitation? If we do, we will miss the blessings He offers us in this life and the next. The Bible tells us that on the Day of Judgment, God will call us to account for our choices. Today, don’t make excuses. Commit your life to Him. Nothing is more important than His Kingdom!
