Eager to Be Kind

Eager to Be Kind

There are times when it is natural and easy to be kind. To be considerate and show concern for others. But then there are times when this is the last thing we want to do.

Our hearts may not overflow with kindness toward people who irritate us, or who have hurt us in some way. People who seem like our rivals, or even our enemies.

Conflicts and differences of opinion are inevitable, and there can be situations in which it can be difficult to show kindness. Yet Paul said that we are to be kind in our relationships with everyone. Not just those with whom we agree. Both Christians and non-Christians, friends and enemies.

Paul used a Greek word that suggested running or racing to a goal. This word demonstrates how eagerly we should be ready to be kind. In fact, the original text suggests that we are to welcome the opportunity to do good things, to be pleasant, agreeable, and joyful toward others.

As Jesus taught, we are to love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great (Luke 6:35).

Each day, you have countless opportunities to apply this principle. Make it your goal to show kindness whenever you have the chance. Ask God to help you be eager to have an attitude of kindness in your relationships. Be a vessel for His Spirit. Remember, you are an ambassador of Jesus Christ.
