Horace Greeley, born on this day in 1811, was famous for being a writer and editor who strongly opposed slavery. In 1841 he founded the New York Tribute, a newspaper he edited until his death. Greeley won respect by his personal writing style and by the caliber of journalists he employed.

An articulate advocate for Western expansion in America, Greeley popularized the catchphrase “Go West, young man.” This inspired thousands to head West despite the effort it would require.

The Bible encourages us to realize our human limits but also remember that, with God, nothing is impossible (Matthew 17:20). That we can do “all things” through Christ (Philippians 4:13 ESV).

Like the early disciples, we can realize that, empowered by the Holy Spirit, there are no limits. We are not to give in to discouragement or fear, but focus on the plans God has given us, trusting Him every step of the way.

In your life, you may face many reasons to be discouraged. To feel inadequate, timid, or afraid. You may experience obstacles or find the going hard.

These are times to make sure you are being guided by God. That you don’t let anything keep you from fulfilling your God-given assignments. That you continue to dream the dreams He gives you. Not being limited by your human weaknesses but depending on His unlimited power. Moving forward by faith.
