Drawn into Darkness

There are many ways in which we can find ourselves plunging into spiritual darkness: when we allow our lives to be filled with sin; when we yield to the influence of Satan and his demonic forces; when we allow the world to dominate our thoughts; when we are governed by the lusts of the flesh and its corruption, deceitfulness, and false promises; when we go to the wrong places, see the wrong things, and spend time with the wrong people; and, as John warned, when we hate others.

Hatred changes our nature, releasing a spirit that can block the flow of God’s love and Light in our lives. We might think we’re seeing clearly when, in fact, we are spiritually blind.

However, the presence of Light reveals the truth and changes everything. Light comes from having fellowship with Jesus, who is the Light. It comes from a mind filled with the Word, for we find real Light only in His Light (Psalm 36:9).

Light also comes comes from a lifestyle that pleases God. It comes as we surrender our lives to Jesus and allow Him to teach us. For “in Him was life, and the life was the Light of men” (John 1:4). And Light comes when we love others.

Knowing how easily we can be corrupted and drawn into darkness, David declared, “I will set no worthless thing before my eyes” (Psalm 101:3). Knowing how easily we can say the wrong things, he prayed, “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth” (Psalm 141:3).

Today, don’t allow darkness to corrupt you. Be sure to live in the Light of the Gospel. Be a witness for the Light, that others might be saved.
