Desperate

As he considered his situation, David felt hopeless. He was outnumbered and overwhelmed with problems. It would have been easy to give up, but he was determined not to be overcome by these obstacles or difficulties. Instead of giving in to discouragement, he decided to seek God with a sense of desperation.

David realized that God was his only hope. The only fitting comparison was like being “in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” He was so desperate that his soul was thirsting for Him. His flesh longed for God, to see His power and glory. He realized that His lovingkindness was better than life itself. So He praised God, and lifted up His hands in His name.

As you look at your life, you might face situations like those David encountered. Do you feel that you are in the middle of a dry and thirsty land? Does it appear that there are no solutions for your problems? Do you feel hopeless? Discouraged? Frustrated? Uncertain where to turn?

Following the example given us by David, these are times to focus on God with renewed determination. To thirst for His presence, just like you would seek water in a wilderness. To hunger for His Word, just as if you had not eaten for days. To seek His presence with urgency. Passionately praying, and devouring His Word.

In your desperation, worship Him. Lift up your hands in His name. His loving kindness is better than life. Seek Him. Trust Him.
