Demonstrating God’s Love

The feasts were central to the life of God’s people. These were His feasts (Leviticus 23:5). He commanded them to keep the feasts every year. These were not religious rituals but events filled with deep spiritual significance that God felt were not options but essential.

One tradition was to read a special passage of Scripture during each feast. The passage read during Passover was the Song of Solomon. Why was this book selected for this special honor?

Passover was the ideal expression of God’s love for His people. The Song of Solomon is filled with intimate imagery, words that describe a love relationship between a man and woman. But, when reading this book at Passover, His people would be reminded of His love for them.

They would remember how much He longs to hear their voice. How much He wants to spend time with them. To fellowship with them. That He does not desire a religion but rather a relationship.

Passover is a time for all believers to remember these same truths. For God showed His love for us by sending Jesus to be our Passover Lamb. The Bible reminds us “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

This year, Passover begins tomorrow night. Throughout this Passover season, remember that this is an important time on God’s calendar. It is His feast. A day that God Himself commanded that we keep. Why? Because it was His reminder that He is love (1 John 4:8).

Today, celebrate this love! And remember how much He loves you!
