God’s Perspective

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries2 Minutes

How well do you really know yourself? Are you realistic? And how selective is your memory?

These issues were examined in a recent study when a major university tracked everything 101 people did throughout an entire day. Participants recorded every activity in a diary. For example, they noted how much time they spent watching TV and other media activity.

When researchers compared diaries with observed behavior, they were surprised to discover the considerable differences between what people thought they did, and what they actually did. For example, on average, people said they spent 4.8 hours with the media daily, while they actually spent 11 hours! They just didn’t realize the facts.

This research demonstrates an important truth. We all tend to think that we know what we do, and understand ourselves. But the Bible reminds us our perspective is faulty. That are memory is partial. That we have limits. That our own perception is often distorted.

David was wise enough to realize his limits. Knowing that he needed God’s objective perception, he cried out for His wisdom and help. He knew that he was “as nothing before You.”

Today, you can be tempted to think that you understand everything about your life, and know what is best for you. It is important to remember that you, too, have limits. The fact is that God knows you better than you know yourself.

He wants your life to be filled with blessings, meaning, and fulfillment. But you need to commit your life to Him. To base your life on the principles in His Word. To trust Him. And let Him direct your path.
