Confident

Jeremiah was filled with doubt. It didn’t seem to matter that God had called him. Instead of focusing on his assignment, Jeremiah gave an excuse: “I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” Depending on his own abilities, he lacked confidence, and felt unqualified.

But God taught Jeremiah an important lesson that would become a pattern for his ministry. He asked, “What do you see?” First, God directed him toward an almond tree, and then a pot. Then He described specific characteristics of both objects. Completing the lesson, He then used these insights to give Jeremiah perspective and direction.

Through this example, God was teaching Jeremiah the importance of trusting Him. Paying attention to what he would be shown. He was learning that he did not have to struggle or worry about what to say or do. He needed to be sensitive to God and what He would reveal. Then he just needed to obey, moving forward in faith.

These same patterns are true for us. Like Jeremiah, each of us has a calling from God. Like Jeremiah, we can become discouraged or filled with doubt if we trust in ourselves and our own strength. Like Jeremiah, the key is being confident in God. Learning to be sensitive to His Spirit. Moving forward in His power. Walking by faith.

In your life, make sure that you stay sensitive to His Spirit. Seek His assignments for you, but don’t focus on your own strength and abilities! Trust Him to provide everything you need. Then move forward in faith, confident in Him.
