Confidence in God’s Promises

The disciples were proud of the temple. It was the center of the life of their people. It was massive and impressive. To them, it seemed like this magnificent building would stand forever. But, even though the temple appeared to be permanent and imposing, Jesus said that “not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

This prophecy must have seemed impossible to the disciples. Yet, just a few years after Jesus spoke those words, the temple was, indeed, destroyed. In fact, it was on this day in A.D. 70 when the Roman armies captured the first wall of the city of Jerusalem. Within days, the temple was totally demolished, just as Jesus had foretold.

Many of the prophecies in the Bible can be hard for our natural minds to comprehend. It can be so easy for us to be like the disciples. To trust in what we see with our eyes and our own understanding. To place our confidence in the things of this world.

But the Bible makes clear that His Word always is true. It is true even when we have questions or don’t understand it clearly. And it doesn’t matter whether or not we agree with it. It is more certain than the news we read. More trustworthy than the opinions of the most celebrated scholars and experts.

Today, you can place your absolute faith and trust in God’s Word. His prophecies are true, and His promises never fail. Do not doubt or waver, but put your confidence and hope in Him.
