Confession and Offering

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries2 Minutes

God knows that all of us make mistakes. We all do things we should not do. Some of these sins are big. Some are small. Some are widely known; some are known only to ourselves and God. We can sin through our words, actions, or thoughts. We can sin if we are witnesses but do not tell what we know.

But, in God’s sight, sin is sin. And sin in any form pollutes our hearts and minds, and separates us from Him. This is why the Law provides a way for His people to be freed from sin.

The first step toward freedom is acknowledging our sin. We cannot be free as long as we refuse to acknowledge what we have done. As the New Testament emphasizes, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” And we need to make confession: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:8-10).

But the Law also said that people who confess their sins also needed to bring a “guilt offering” to the Lord. This was so important that it applied to everyone. A demonstration that they were serious before God.

He made it clear that everyone can make some offering. There were no excuses for carrying the weight of sin. Each person can make an offering that would be a sacrifice for them.

These principles still apply. If you want to be clean, pure in God’s sight, and freed of the burdens of sin, confess your sins. Accept His forgiveness. And make your life a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) Committing everything to Him.
