Complacent

Complacent

Some people have an active faith. More than just knowing about God, they actually have a personal relationship with Him. They don’t just know His Word but have hidden it in their hearts. They really believe that it is true and live according to His principles. Their lives have been transformed. They are a new creation in Christ and seek first God’s Kingdom.

However, as Zephaniah indicated, others are “complacent.” They have allowed their faith to stagnate. Instead of growing, they are spiritually motionless. Standing still. They have heard the Word but don’t put it into practice. They primarily are concerned about their reputation.

They are like the seed Jesus described that was “sown among the thorns.” These people have heard the Word but haven’t developed deep roots. Their spiritual lives are dominated by “the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things.” As a result, they are not fruitful. Instead of being governed by God’s Spirit, they are more concerned about personal comforts and the things of the world (Mark 4:18-19).

The reality is that anyone can allow their faith to stagnate. We can become too comfortable. How do we prevent this from happening? First, by having a living relationship with God. By knowing Him, personally and intimately. Being filled with His Word. Trusting Him completely. Being sensitive to His Spirit.

Don’t allow worldly cares to hold you back. Be bold. Dare to trust God. Put your faith into action!
