Your Calling and Purpose

Paul recognized that God had a unique purpose for his life. He had set him apart, even before he was born. Paul acknowledged, “God has special plans for me” (v. 15 New Century Version).

Paul also realized he originally had the wrong idea about God’s plans, thinking that God wanted him to persecute the Church. He was highly successful and became a rising star among the religious elite, “advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my countrymen” (vs. 13-14).

However, this success didn’t mean Paul understood God’s plans. The Lord had something else in mind. He “called” Paul to align his life with His plan. It was a specific plan designed just for Paul. He didn’t develop it, manipulate circumstances, or dream something up. God called him “through His grace,” His unmerited favor. It was a destiny and a purpose that Paul, as a fanatical, totally committed Jew, never would have considered. But this was God’s call for him.

The same thing is true for all of us. No one is an accident. Each life has a unique purpose, and God has “special plans” for every person.

Today, make sure you’re seeking God’s special plans for your life. You may think you have clear ideas, but, as Paul learned, God may have something else in mind. Declare that Jesus is Lord of everything. Surrender your life anew to Him.

Seek the face of God, and give Him permission to direct your life. Don’t fight, resist, or argue with Him. Let Him bring you fulfillment and accomplish His special plans for you!
