Called to Help

Called to Help

God gave Bezalel primary responsibility for building the tabernacle. He had been chosen for this important task. While many Israelites worked on this project, God called Oholiab specifically to help Bezalel.

Oholiab was chosen in part because he had the exact skills needed for this project. He was “an engraver and designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen” (Exodus 38:23). In this role, he would have been able to apply his experience and craftsmanship. But he also could assist in other ways.

By calling Oholiab, God was giving Bezalel needed support – someone he could turn to and share his burdens. But also someone with skills who could oversee specific tasks with expertise.

The Bible reminds us that God has a special calling for each person. Some, like Bezalel, are called to be leaders. But others are called to help. And together believers are like one body with many members. As Paul explained, “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other” (1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT). All of us must fulfill our role, doing what God calls us to do.

In your life, remember that God has given you special skills and resources. Be ready to serve Him. Use the gifts He has given you. Work in harmony with others. Seek to fulfill your place in the body.
