Bringing Good News

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries2 Minutes

Nahum lived in turbulent times during the early 7th century BC. His ministry was focused on his “vision”—his “oracle” or burden (v. 1). At the time, the Assyrians were the dominant power in the region, spreading fear with their ruthlessness. Nahum conveyed how God knew what the Assyrians were doing and that He was a refuge for His people, ready to judge those who defied Him. God’s people would be saved, and Assyria would be humbled.

In the midst of this prophecy, Nahum seemed to pause to reflect on the terror caused by Assyria and how desperately God’s people needed hope and a miracle. Nahum expressed what seemed to be the thoughts of God’s people and then brought the announcement of “good news” and “peace.”

What a welcome message this must have been! Perhaps Nahum experienced it himself, as he brought the “good news” that God was about to rescue His people…that a world filled with war and threats would be replaced with “peace”…and that all the bad news would be replaced by good!

Later, Paul specifically applied this verse to the Gospel when he wrote his letter to the Romans: “How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!’” (Romans 10:15) Truly, those who bring the Good News provide welcome relief and hope to those weighed down with burdens.

His servants, those who are used by Him to accomplish His purposes, are providing water to thirsty souls in a desert, help to those who feel helpless, hope to those filled with despair.

Today, let God use you to minister to a hurting world of men and women worn down by cares and worries. Remember: You have been blessed so you can be a blessing (Genesis 12:2).
