Boldness and Audacity

In 1942, as Allied forces were engaged in warfare in northern Africa, General George S. Patton, Jr. struggled to find the formulas and strategies that would lead to victory. It had proven difficult to organize the American armies, and he faced challenges in developing a coordinated campaign with the British allies. Meanwhile, their German foes proved tenacious and determined.

On this day in 1942, Patton wrote in his diary an observation that summarized his conclusion. He wrote, “God favors the bold, victory is to the audacious.” As he applied this boldness, he ultimately led his troops to victory.

Patton’s philosophy was not original. In fact, for his model we might look at the instructions God gave to Joshua after he became Israel’s leader. God’s counsel simply was “be strong and courageous.”

God knew how easily Joshua might have been uncertain or afraid. He might have been tempted to veer from the path God had given him, so He told Joshua not to turn “to the right or to the left.” In fact, God said he must “be careful” to obey every word he had been given, trusting Him completely.

As you face the challenges of life, be sure to commit your way to the Lord. Ask Him for the wisdom you need, and let Him to direct your path. Confident in His leading, allow Him to give you His peace and assure you of His presence. Let Him give you holy boldness and take away any doubt or worry.

Be ready to exercise faith, and believe God’s Word without reservation. Believe Him for protection, miracles, blessings, and victory. Be strong and courageous!
