Blind Spots

It seems natural to criticize others. We can easily spot their mistakes and flaws, sure why they need to change, and convinced we know how they could improve.

Yet how difficult it often is to be honest with ourselves and objective about our own lives. We find it easy to justify ourselves and make excuses, and we’re frequently blind to the real consequences of our actions. If things don’t work out as we had hoped, it seems natural to absolve ourselves of responsibility and simply blame our circumstances on others.

God knows these tendencies about our lives. This is why we are warned that “every man’s way is right in his own eyes.” This simple fact is true for every one of us.

But the rest of this promise is just as important: “The LORD weighs the hearts.” We may be concerned with how other people look at us. We may minimize our own accountability. But all the while, God looks at our hearts. He is interested in the whole truth. He sees our true character. And He’s looking for real change, not temporary cover-ups.

While we may only see the surface issues, God knows every purpose and motivation, including the deeper meaning. Too often, we only see what we want to see, but He sees the root causes. The Lord understands our hurt feelings and emotional scars. He sees our secret sins and the things we would prefer to stay hidden.

God stands ready to turn our lives around! He can point us in the right direction and help us solve our problems. But we must be honest with Him and let Him deal with the deeper issues.

Today, ask God to give you His perspective on your life. Don’t worry about what others might say or think. Seek to be pure in His sight and pleasing to Him. Be open and honest. Let Him examine every thought. Every action. Every word. He will transform your life!
