Anchor for Your Soul

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Your hope in Jesus is the anchor for your soul.

“God, desiring … to demonstrate … that His purpose is unchangeable … we … would have strong encouragement to hold firmly to the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and reliable.”Hebrews 6:17–19 NASB

The world is constantly changing. It’s often in turmoil, and many who trust in this life have been shaken. The world economy has swung wildly. Governments and politicians have groped for solutions. People around the world have wondered what to do.

If we are not careful, we will allow our hearts and minds to be shaped by this environment of change and unreliability. Yes, governments might change. People might disappoint us. Policies may or may not be effective. We may face problems, persecution, and difficulties.

Even many Christians have become discouraged, worried, afraid, and insecure. We must remember that no matter what takes place in the world, God never changes. His plans are fixed and firm. His character is unwavering. We always can hope in Him!

We need to “hold firmly to the hope set before us.” The hope that God provides is not a vague promise but “an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and reliable.” This is hope we can count on, for “it is impossible for God to lie” (v. 18).

Declare God’s promises to be true in your life. Remember, “hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit” (Romans 5:5).

Don’t despair or give up. In a world of change, you can commit your life to God. He will give you hope that can anchor your soul.

Reflection Question: Do you need a fresh infusion of hope right now?
