Altogether Beautiful

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

God sees His children the way that a new groom sees his bride: altogether beautiful.

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish on you.”Song of Solomon 4:7 NASB

“Love is blind.” This phrase, popularized in William Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice, often describes love that is new and all-consuming. But when passions fade, the love that seemed overpowering becomes overshadowed by flaws that once were unimportant.

Human love may be blind, if only for a season. God’s love is different. Nothing and no one can separate us from His love (Romans 8:35–39).

However, this love can be distanced. As happened with Adam and Eve, sin can keep us from entering God’s presence and can block the flow of His blessings.

The Bible tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). He promises, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our wrongdoings from us” (Psalm 103:12).

In the Song of Solomon, we see a wonderful picture of God’s view of our lives. The woman may not be happy with her appearance, but through eyes of love, the man sees nothing but her beauty. That is how God sees us. In His sight, we are clean, pure, and completely forgiven in Christ.

Don’t hide from God or let sin block His blessings. Confess your sins and confidently seek His forgiveness and cleansing. He longs to fellowship with you and show you how much He loves you!

Reflection Question: Write a love letter back to God thanking Him for loving you.

Prayer
